China's vehicle output and sales grow YoY in H1 2023 07-26-2023

Summary: In H1 2023, China's output and sales of vehicles reached 13.25 million units and 13.24 million units respectively, up by 9.3% and 9.8% YoY respectively.

Based on the information released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on 11 July, 2023, in June 2023, China produced and sold 2.56 million units and 2.62 million units of vehicles respectively, edging up by 2.5% and 4.8% YoY. In Jan.–June 2023, domestic output and sales volume of vehicles rose by 9.3% and 9.8% YoY to 13.25 million units and 13.24 million units respectively.

 

Passenger vehicle

In June 2023, China produced and sold 2.22 million and 2.27 million units of passenger vehicles respectively, with output slipping by 0.9% YoY while sales volume increasing by 2.1% YoY.

 

In Jan.–June 2023, domestic output and sales of vehicles mounted up by 8.1% and 8.8% YoY to 11.28 million and 11.27 million units respectively.

 

Commercial vehicle

In June 2023, China produced 342,000 units and sold 355,000 units of commercial vehicles, growing by 31.3% and 26.3% YoY respectively.

 

In H1 2023, China altogether produced 1.97 million units and sold 1.97 million units of commercial vehicles, swelling by 16.9% and 15.8% respectively over the same period last year.

 

New energy vehicle

In June 2023, China's output and sales of new energy vehicles went up by 32.8% and 35.2% YoY to 784,000 units and 806,000 units respectively; the sales volume of newly-made new energy vehicles accounted for 30.7% of the total sales of new vehicles.

 

In H1 2023, domestic output and sales of new energy vehicles picked up by 42.4% and 44.1% YoY to 3.79 million and 3.75 million units respectively; the sales volume of newly-made new energy vehicles occupied 28.3% of the total sales volume of new vehicles.

 

Export

In June 2023, 382,000 whole vehicles left China's ports, up by 53.2% YoY; China's exports of new energy vehicles hit 78,000 units, 1.7 times the volume in June 2022.

 

In Jan.–June 2023, China exported 2.14 million whole vehicles, climbing by 75.7% YoY; new energy vehicles exports totalled 534,000 units, 1.6 times more than the exports in H1 2022.

 

As consumers' demand for various models of car exterior and interior colours increases, choices for car paint colours are getting diversified. Automotive coating can be more aesthetic, bright, weather resistant and uvioresistant by adding titanium dioxide (TiO2). The growing momentum of both output and sales of automobiles has positive impact on TiO2 demand to some extent.
